POPIA Notice

1. Who is responsible for your information

The responsible party is Turner and Co Marketing (Pty) Ltd, which operates Remote Jobs SA. You can reach our Information Officer at info@remotejobssouthafrica.co.za.

2. What we process, and why we are allowed to

• Your account, profile and CV, to provide the service you signed up for (POPIA section 11(1)(b)).
• Sending your CV to our AI providers to power the tools you use, such as the CV builder and CV matcher (section 11(1)(b)).
• Sharing your profile and CV with employers: when you apply to their job, because you asked us to; and through the talent pool, only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time (section 11(1)(a)).
• Marketing emails, only with your consent (section 69).
• Payment records, to take payment and to meet our tax obligations (sections 11(1)(b) and (c)).
• IP addresses, activity and analytics, to keep the site secure and improve it, which is in our legitimate interest and yours (section 11(1)(f)).
• Measuring our advertising with Meta and TikTok: which Facebook, Instagram and TikTok ads lead to subscriptions, using hashed contact details and browser information (section 11(1)(f)).

3. Information we do not ask for

We do not ask for special personal information, such as your race, religion, health, trade union membership or criminal record, or for your ID number. Please leave these off your CV. Our CV builder is designed to leave out ID numbers, dates of birth, photographs and home addresses.

Remote Jobs SA is for people aged 18 or over, so we do not knowingly process children’s information.

4. Where your information comes from

Mostly from you: what you enter, upload and send. Some is created as you use the site, such as AI match scores, interview transcripts and scorecards, and employers’ decisions on your applications.

5. Who we share it with

Employers you apply to, or who find you through the talent pool if you have joined it, and the service providers who run parts of the site for us, such as hosting, email, payments, AI and advertising measurement. Each is listed in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell personal information.

6. Information sent outside South Africa

Most employers on the site are in the United Kingdom and the United States, and several of our service providers store or process information abroad, including in the United States and the European Union (POPIA section 72). We send information abroad:

• to employers, only when you apply to their job or have joined the talent pool;
• to our service providers, under their data-protection terms, which require them to protect it and use it only to provide their service to us.

7. AI and automated decisions

We use AI to read and write CVs, to score how well a CV matches a job, and to score screening interviews. These scores help an employer review candidates. They do not decide on their own whether you are hired or rejected (POPIA section 71): the employer makes that decision, and our terms require them not to reject anyone on an automated score alone. If you think an AI score about you is wrong, tell us, and we will look at it with the employer.

8. Security and breaches

We protect your information with encrypted connections, private file storage and restricted access (section 19). If your information is accessed or acquired by someone who should not have it, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as soon as reasonably possible (section 22).

9. Your rights

Under POPIA you can:

• ask whether we hold your personal information, and for a copy of it;
• ask us to correct or delete it;
• object to how we process it, including for direct marketing;
• withdraw consent you have given, such as for the talent pool or marketing emails;
• complain to the Information Regulator (see section 11).

10. How to make a request

Email info@remotejobssouthafrica.co.za from the address on your account, saying what you would like us to do. We may ask you to confirm your identity first. We reply within 30 days, and there is no charge for asking what information we hold about you.

Some things you can do yourself at any time: update your profile, leave the talent pool, and turn off marketing emails in your profile or with the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.

11. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator:
